ITL Northeast supports Schools into Work Programme

As part of our social value initiative we are actively involved with the ‘Schools into Work’ Programme through North Tyneside Council. This includes engaging with schools to support young people in their career development and to help prepare them for work by raising awareness of educational and employment opportunities.

On 27th June 2019 we attended George Stephenson High School (GSHS) located in Killingworth in North Tyneside and took part in their "Decades day”. This event was aimed at being a taster day for the Year 8 pupils both to broaden and raise their awareness of career opportunities within public and private organisations and various sectors. Also to reflect on how careers in various industries have changed – and what the next 10 years might look like in terms of development and opportunities for young people in the region and beyond.

Our Director Grace Tia Bon Bon acted as a spokesperson for ITL North East Ltd and engaged Year 8 pupils in order to cultivate an interest in career opportunities available in the region and abroad simply by learning languages. Currently there is a shortage of qualified linguists in the industry and so Grace Tia Bon Bon gave a presentation to the students and talked about the career progression of an interpreter and the potential financial benefits in learning a language. Some of the students came from diverse backgrounds and were encouraged to continue to develop their language skills in order to help their community in the future.

"We endeavour to support the development of young people in the region and to assist them in acquiring the necessary skills and experience in order to contribute to society” says, Grace Tia Bon Bon.

Throughout the summer months we will be involved in a number of local projects including development days, school visits and attending employment fairs. We hope to see you soon at one of these exciting events!
