We are at the beginning of the New Year again, the last year has flown by
so quickly and since the last publication
of our e-news we have had some memorable moments…… |

Kelly Holmes
The most memorable was meeting Dame Kelly Holmes at the NECC annual
dinner and listening to the challenges that she faced whilst embarking on
her own Olympic career. Runners are often faced with diverse challenges as
are interpreters in the daily delivery of their services across a diverse
population, a range of cultures and a variety of settings. It is usually
persistence, determination and continuous professional development that pay
off.
As a company we endeavour to provide continuous improvement in our
interpreters ability to read, write, listen and comprehend in both the
source and target language. I would like to urge all of our interpreters to
prepare for an ‘olympiad’ in their own field.
We should carry on interpreting!

Fyndoune Community College
We have done some good community work also. For instance I was invited to
speak about languages and the notion that the world that we live in is
getting smaller and smaller to a group of 9-12 year olds at Fyndoune
Community College in Sacriston, County Durham.
I
was impressed as the pupils were very enthusiastic to learn new languages.
I asked them about ‘in which professions can languages be useful’ and one
boy replied without hesitation ‘a footballer, Miss!’ to which another
student shouted in the back row ‘what about Nurses and Doctors.’

Contract Extensions
I am please to inform everybody that the Ministry of Justice has extended
their contract with ITL again and that some of our NHS contracts South of
the Tyne have also been extended.
Just also to inform our clients and interpreters that we have
successfully passed the Northumbria Police pilot and I wish to thank the
interpreters who made this possible.

And Finally...
So far, with the current austere financial climate I hope that with good
performance that saves both our public and private sector clients money we
can continue to providing an essential service to the community that we live
in.
